If you could have more of anything right now what would it be?
If you had asked me that question before I became a mother, I would have had a laundry list of responses; I want more opportunities, more vacations, more money, more clients, more bedrooms, more ... But now when I think about what I want more of, everything boils down to one word — time.
What I want in life right now is more time. Time with my husband. Time with my son. Time to explore new opportunities. Time to finish old projects. Time to start new ones. More time to focus on my business instead of spending it in my business. More time for me.
Everyone has heard the saying "time is precious," but as working parents we know time means so much more. More time means more hugs. More moments together. More chances to pursue opportunities. More personal successes and more professional wins.
Kai and I started MORE because we wanted more for our family, and we knew we couldn't get there alone. Getting to more takes a village. It takes real people, like you and me, sharing our stories and lessons learned. It takes us having an honest conversation about the space where work, family and life intersect. More discussions about where we are, where we want to be and how we get there. Getting to more means building a network of people who are in your corner. People who have been there before (or are there now) and are willing to help you get there. And sometimes it takes getting away for a few days so you can regroup and focus.
At the end of the day, we're all in the same pursuit. We're all looking for our New MORE. And it's our hope that through this community you'll find yours.
To help, we are hosting two events this summer ...
A Milk. Beer. Wine. happy hour in Tempe, Ariz. on May 19th at The Halle Heart Children's Museum for us locals to meet new people and enjoy old ones, without having to leave the kids behind.
And our summer retreat, The MORE Retreat, which is a unique three-day, two-night getaway designed to give you the time you need to focus. You can come alone, with just your spouse or with your entire family. We’ll have onsite childcare (of course) available so you won't have to worry about the kids while you work on you.
You can use the time to flesh out a new business idea or spend the weekend with your spouse doing some family goal-setting. The time is designed to give you more time to work on something that is important to you.
I know getting to my MORE isn't easy. Time goes by fast, and there is always something on my to-do list that I won't get to. But with baby steps I will get there — we will get there.
To move myself in the right direction, today I decided to start working an hour later than normal so that I could have lunch with Kai and our son. It's not much, but it's a beautiful start.
Now, it's your turn. What are you going to do today to get closer to your MORE?
