Ep 32 Having another

Having a baby is supposed to be a beautiful time. I wish I could be in that space, but all I can think about are all of the things that could go wrong.
— Amber Anderson, The New MORE

Amber and Kai talk about the possibility of having another child and the impact/benefits of becoming a family of four. During this episode, they discuss balancing their desire for more children with the reality of what that would mean for their family. The couple also talks about finances, family dynamics, support, and postpartum depression and anxiety.

  • Having another child. Whether it's your second, third or ninth, having another baby is a big decision — especially for working parents. What if something goes wrong? How will the decision impact our family dynamics? Can we afford it? Amber and Kai talk about the pros and cons of adding another addition to their family of three.

  • Compassion in the business world. There's a lack of compassion in the business world for working families. Amber talks about how family, friends, and co-workers reacted after she stepped back at work, how the lack of empathy impacted her emotionally and her reaction to it.

  • The perfectly imperfect birth. As many as 20% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage and 1 out of 3 births today end in a c-section. The two discuss how the scars of their imperfect birth are influencing their decision.

  • The cloudy days. Postpartum depression, mood and anxiety disorders impact 1 out of 7 mothers and 1 out of 10 fathers. Amber and Kai discuss their journey through postpartum depression.

  • Happy World Breastfeeding Week! As an extended breastfeeding momma, Amber talks about the role breastfeeding has had on her life.

Black women have a higher chance of dying in childbirth. Continuing the conversation on racism in the U.S. medical system.

Amber shares how the book, Labor Day, gave her words. One of her favorite stories was written by Marie Myung-Ok Lee, a professor at Brown and Colombia University.
